Backfire 3 Years, 7 Months ago

Every time I shut the bike off after its heated up, not hot like stop and go traffic or even hot weather out, just 20 minuets of ridding or so,I get a backfire after about a 3 second delay. The backfire makes me feel like Uncle Buck. Part of the reason the shop turned the PMS out to 3, they said, was to help stop it from backfiring. I don't get any backfire while riding, not when letting off the throttle at high RPMs or anything. The bike didn't do this when I first got it and I started to use some ring free to see it that might help but so far no luck. I was hoping someone might have an Idea for me to try.
