I really hate the dealer!!!! Central yamaha, tx 1 Year ago
So, I recently bought a roadie. Had it a few days, then took it in for the trans recall. I first called and had them check if it had been done. They said no, go ahead and bring it in, we should have it back to you in a week. So I brought it up there. They then told me it would be about two weeks. Kinda sucks but ok. They have had it for over two weeks now, and just today they start the work on it!!! Total b/s. I am a auto tech my self, and I know for damn sure it shouldn't take that long. My customers would laugh in my face if I told them it would be two weeks until they got their vehicle back.

So just today they start the work. I get a call from them at around 3:45, saying that they just got it torn down, and had bad news. They say that I need a new intake manifold, shift forks- all 3, # 2, 4, 5 gears and pinions. Said all of it is going to cost around $700. I feel like I'm getting shafted. First because I called them and asked that I wanted to know how the oil pump gear looked, and was thinking of replacing it. He said it would be $150 for the part. Which I found everywhere else for 70, one place for 48$.

So, now I have to try and come up with this money, or just have them put it back together. $700 sounds high for just a few parts.

Let me know what you guys think.

Ask to see the parts they say are bad, along with the manual with the specifications that determine if they are serviceable or not. If you are convinced the parts are bad, do what you must, but NEGOTIATE those parts prices. Tell them the labor is on a free ride since Yamaha is paying, and no additonal labor should be involved, since all that comes down for the recall.

They probably waited for the kit to come from California in the mail be fore they started. They don't believe in shipping 2-3 day packages for some reason.

P.S. Dealerships SUCK!

Yeah, I plan on going there first thing tomorrow, and have them show me what they are talking about. They said the intake manifold is cracked, all three shift forks are bent and have rub marks on them. And the trans gears are getting worn, and looks like gear 2 could fail in the near future. This bike only has 25k mikes, and haven't heard or read about anyone having problems with their trans,

Sorry to here about the troubles you are having with your new bike. What year road star is it?Go to Yamaha motors.com and they have all the recalls for road stars since 1999 to today.
call the Yamaha hot-line and tell them your problem and they might help you with the dealer you are having to deal with.
where are they located? I drove from Houston,Texas to Fort Hood,Texas then to Warrenton,Missouri, and I thought I drove by that place on the way???I don't like to deal with the stealers either unless it is the last resort.

Ive never heard of that MANY problems. Sounds like thier trying to make more off of the job since its a recall. The intake probably is all cracked, alot of them do that. Better off gettin one of Curts and putting back on it if you do need one. Whichever way you go make sure you port it before you put it on. But like others said...look at those old parts b4 they go any farther. These things are made like tanks...cant imagine theres that much wrong...unless somebody dropped a handful of ball bearings in the oil fill tube at one time!

I thought about going with curts manifold. Just very strapped for cash. My roadie is an 01, about 25k miles, the guy before me put in some time and money into it, lots of upgrades. The bike was well taken care of. Out of all the tech posts I have read on here, I haven't heard of anyone needing gears and pinions. Maybe shift forks at high mileage. I can understand the manifold, that is ok. Im gonna go and raise some hell with them tomorrow.

FYI, I have a very good condition manifold in the classifieds. Or go with Curt's ported and smile!

talk to Yamaha motors first, then raise hell.you can plastic-dip coat the outside of the manifold to seal it.But if it is fubar then ask them how it happened I got f'ed when I owned a Dodge Intrepted and it cost me 4000$,I think that they have some rookie tearing down your bike and the probabillty of him knowing what he is doing, doesn't look good. not trying to scare you....I hope things go your way in the long run.
Rode by there Saturday.....should of thrown out a lit match or as us old ones say..."ZIPPO"... to help you out....LOL.
