Use your experience as a mechanic. Cars, cycles, boat motors; all have some of the same basic parts and you dang shure know what worn out looks like. Sounds to me like a typical stealership thinking they are dealing with yupies. Call Yamaha and register a true to life bitch. Hope they ain't in the Waco area. I have really put my 07 to the test as this is the first import I have owned and I do believe this unit is bomb proof.

Tell them to put your bike back together dude. Nice play. You can't avoid "discoloration" at a contact point! No smears or big 'ol burrs! Just ride it/

If it was running fine to start with just tell them to put it back together and start riding.

I thought the same thing. I am gonna call them back in the morning and tell them to put it back together. And I'll just save up the cash to install Curts ported manifold.

This crap just pisses me off. I take pride in my work as a mechanic, and the fact that I don't try to rip off my customers. I have always done my own work, and have never had to deal with a dealer or another repair facility. And now I got a really bad taste in my mouth due to these a**holes. So hopefully I will never have to deal with them again. Btw , the dealer is in Plano, tx, just north of Dallas.

I wonder how many Roadies they have actually tore down? I'd say tell them to put it back together...period. With that few a miles, hard to believe all that would be bad. If ya didn't have issues before, shouldn't have issues after. The wrench who did mine, himself did about 75 to 100 tranny recalls. And even if the parts were bad, is that 700 bucks in parts? There would be no labor since all that comes off anyway. As far as oil gear, granted, they would have a right to charge labor on that, however, it is only one screw that keeps it in place, that wouldn't normally have to be removed.
Have to watch out for some of these dealers, there were a few that claimed Yamaha didn't pay for the oil or filter for the tranny recall either.

Yeah, the bike rode and shifted fine. The only thing I thought it really needed was some new plugs, and a good carb adjustment. Just seemed like it lacked the power I keep hearing about. I did only have it for 3-4 days before I took it in for the recall. It's an 01 xv1600, 25k miles, and seemed to be well taken care of. Guy had put alot into it. BAK, Vance and hines long shots, I believe the AIS is removed, 18in apes, front fairing, Harley hard bags, trunk, custom seats. The bike was no where near stock, and looked like it had been babied. That another reason why I think they are B/S ing me. There is no way it was risen that hard, to cause all the " wear" they are saying it has.

have them do the recall, and the recall only. the dealership is trying to make some money on the back end.

the manual does state: CHECKING THE SHIFT FORKS
The following procedure applies to all of
the shift forks.
1. Check:
• shift fork cam follower 1
• shift fork pawl 2
Bends/damage/scoring/wear → Replace
the shift fork.

on the other hand, since the bike shifted fine before. just fire up the grill, crack a few oat sodas, and i will be there in 4 hours.

Yes, the $700 was just for parts, manifold, shift forks and the other gears. And they told me it would be 150 to do the oil pump gear. That's a total of $850
