Where'd my potato go??? 2 Months ago
I love the sound of the "potato-potato-potato" gallopy sound my R* USED to make (kinda the Harley trademark, but not a Harley of course). I installed Roadhouse Dooleys a few weeks ago, and my bike ran with the 'potato' gallop sound - awesome! I don't know what happened, but it's not doing it anymore! Now it's back to the metric non-irregular (would that be considered 'regular' then?!) chug. All I've done since the install is minorly adjust my idle knob a little here and there. No PMS adjustment or jetting.

Anyone know how to get my potato back??

LOL, Sometimes mine seems like it lopes better than other times, but when mine caught the dreaded svs I guess it sounded more like my old HD LOL, Although the Roadstar is a metric bike, the sound is close to the HD but will never be the same as an HD. I love the sound the Roady makes, you can still pick it out of a crowd of HDs.......When Harley left the Evo single cam to go to TwinCam motors they lost some of thier lope. My old Sporter 1200 was my best sounding bike.
IF you want more lope get the bigbore kit and change the cams?,,,,Like the old saying goes, want more inches, stroke it!

Hey DD, the adjusting the idle is probably what caused the lope to go..did you speed it up? also the cooler drier air now that fall is coming will cause it too. actually, IMO the engine is running cleaner if it isn't loping...

very interesting...the potato sound should be tied to the ignition... and the carb helps too...maybe the exhaust effects it too

I notice a very distinct off beet with my current exhaust

click on Listen..below my sig pic

definatly ignition Pop, rpm has a lot to do with hearing the lag time in the firing sequence..as the rpm is increased, you don't hear the lag as much.. fuel mix seems to exagerate it quite a bit tho..notice when you first start a cold engine, when the choke is on full, as it warms up the lope starts to get more defined and as you ease the choke in you eliminate some of it..

I'm in Flashback's camp. I have a hunch that if you drop the idle some, you'll get the lope back.

If you want the "HD Lope" that their older bikes had, sure don't hear it much since fuel injection became the standard, lower your idle. Of course your Roadie likes a little higher idle to circulate the oil when it is idling. I keep mine up and it still stumbles a little, but I love the sound and would not trade it for anything else.
