Best bang for buck mods??? 3 Years, 3 Months ago
99 silverado. Looking for some performance gains. Bike is jetted and has V&H longshots on it. Just purchased a ported intaked manifold off e-bay. Going to do an airbox mod w/ k&n. Need to have the recall done at witch time I am thinking of doing the engine mods. I was thinking off just doing the high compression pistons. Can this be a stand alone mod or do I need to upgrade carb, valve springs, cams, etc. Is it worth the money just for the hc pistons. What about the dyna 3000? Thanks for any and all input!

Best bang for the $$$$$ is hands down a 31 tooth pully, next is a higher rate rear spring. Hope your recall goes well, got mine back 3 days ago seems to be doing just fine. I didn't have the coin to do a stage I or II oh well. I've done everything else next step is a dyna 3000. The mechanic that did mine has done about 25 recalls so I feel pretty confident, only tok 2 days. Let us know how it goes.

The road star came standard with a 33 tooth pulley from 99-03. From 04 on they have a 32 tooth pulley.

For your 99, go for the 31T pulley, it will make you smile. I did the pipes, BAK, ported manifold, they made it run better with more power but the pulley made the biggest difference in taking off from a stop.

I've got an '01 Roadie... I've got a 31 tooth pulley sitting on my bench, just waiting for a pleasant day to do the job.

I've got Mr.C's universal K&N air filter, a set of Santee pipes off of eBay, with the Sportster style tapered tip mufflers, the Dyna 3000 set for 34 degrees of advance and a 5,000 rpm limit. I jetted it with a K&N kit off of eBay, and the thing starts, runs and rides just great. MPG runs 43 to 49.

I can't wait to put the pulley on!

This is the first I've read much about people dropping a 99-03 to 31T, is that common? How much top end does it remove?

If you swap in a Dyna 3000 ignition module set for 5,000 rpm, probably none.

if the hi-comp kit is not in the near future, try a s/hand ignition module from the 1700.

they´re cheap (where folks with the 1700 fit the dyna 3000 and just sell the original one), and on the 1600 it makes a noticeable difference and ups the rev limit to just before 5000.

Thanks for input. Just purchased Patrick Racing HC pistons off e-bay for $200. Thought that was a good deal. Also got my K&N filter ordered. My ported intake manifold is on its way. Now in search for a Dyna 3000 and a 31t pulley. May have to wait till some of my silverado parts sell off the classifieds or put them on e-bay before anymore purchases. You know how the better 1/2's get about spending money on toys! HA.

I put the HC piston, dyno 3000,Mikuni 42mm carb, the 31 tooth pulley and some people don't believe it till they see it but on the right road and grip she will pull the front end off the ground for about 15 feet so you have a lot of choice my friend.
By the way she's a 2003 Limited Edition
