Installing the MaxMix PMS screw 7 Years, 2 Months ago
Short tip in response to installing the MaxMix in a stock (never re-jetted) carburetor.

There is a brass plug covering the stock PMS screw. You are going to need to drill it out. All the jet kits come with a drill bit and screw you can use to do this, but you could make just about anything work. The idea is to drill a hole into the soft brass of the plug, then screw the screw into it and use the screw to pull it out.

The only thing to watch out for is you don't want to get real far past the plug. You could potentially damage the PMS screw slot. I just take my time, and I haven't even touched one yet.

The PMS screw tower is on the bottom of the carb facing down. You can do all this with the carb sitting inverted on your workbench. Just be sure you are drilling the right brass plug. The one in the tower is the one you want. Just look at the pics in Ken's article and you will see which one it is.

If you bought the MaxMix kit, it came with an additional rubber oring and washer, and is meant to use the washer and oring that are already on the stock PMS screw as well.

Remove the Stock PMS screw, but before you do, tighten it all the way down while counting the number of turns. You will need to know how many turns out it was when you reinstall the MaxMix.

After removing the PMS screw, you will see a rubber oring and a washer. Take both of those off the stocker. There is a picture that comes with the MaxMix that shows what order they go onto the new MaxMix screw in. You end up with two orings and two washers on it when you are done.

Put the MaxMix into your carb (I flip the carb over for this one so that the MaxMix is pointed up and the oring doesn't fall off the end). TIghten it lightly all the way down. Don't tighten it in hard, just stop when you feel it reach the end. Overtightening will put a groove in the end of the Max Mix needle.

Then turn the MaxMix needle back out 1/2 the number of turns that the stock PMS screw was out, and you are done. Thats it.

Then put it all back together again

I just received a MaxMix screw and have carefully read the instructions. There is mention of making sure to remove the stock o-ring and washer so they are not accidentally left in the orifice. However there is no place in the instructions that says to put both the old oem o-ring and washer on in conjunction with the new MaxMix supplied o-ring and washer.

I am going to go to google this and see if I can find anything else that mentions using both sets of o-rings and washers.

Couldn't find anything that says to put both the original oem washer and oring on the MaxMix screw with the MaxAir supplied washer and oring. Gram Are you out there?
