But what I am saying is maybe the resistance is less with better lube and it allows the speed to match the gear better, like 'Floating the gears" on a truck. Just try to figure why it shifts easier and quieter with new lube. If it's too thin the oil will flow off the chain to quickly and you'll get increased noise. If the oil is too thick then you'll get increased drag ... possibly also poor lubrication. As for additives .... don''t know what's needed .... I suspect not much ..... moly certainly helps. I'm pretty sure RP needs no additives. Glad to get the dino oil out though. Getting ready for a longer Iron Butt run. Ha ha. Was not the easiest oil change of my life, but once learned, that'll be way faster the next time...I'll use a damn lift! But after that was done, I went to change the gear oil but could not manage how the hell would I unscrew the fill plug!?!? I'm happy I found this well made how-to showing the use of a large washer. However, having V&H Longshots HS, I guess I will have to remove at least the top pipe to be able to remove the fill plug, right? Because space is so thight I don't see another way to unscrew it... Could you guys please confirm the need to remove pipe or even better, feel free to give me you trick to remove that plug without having to remove the pipe! Shame they put it in such a bad place. I should note that the fill plug is not centered on the case so when you go to loosen it, spin the plug using the surface of the plug as a guide not the case. You could actually probably fill that through the check hole if you have a gear oil pump like what is used to fill up a boat gear case. It might even screw right in, even if it don't I bet I can drain and fill a T Case using one of those and never open the fill hole. Did the jack run quieter after you added the Royal Purple?? I'm going right out now and change mine with Amsoil to make up for your RP! For those with a similar issue I use a measuring cup with a metric scale to replace the gear lube. Works great I have done it twice now. As for smoother shifting I have not noticed a change when going from the stock to Mobil 1 synthetic. I found some Valvoline laying around that is GL-4 rated and used it. Drained out the old stuff into a small 20 oz. drink container with a wide mouth. Used a small funnel on top to keep the mess down.
