Stock handle bar mod 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Anybody ever drilled out the stock handlebars to hide wires?
I found a site detailing the how to's and what for's, but there
is no mention of rust prevention. any thoughts would be great!!

Yep Go between the risers if you have after market. My wires were on the outside of the stock risers when I did it

I have done it a bunch of times on Harleys and a few times on metrics. I drill a 3/8 hole in the bottom of the bar where it will be covered by the switch housing. Run the brake & clutch switch wires into the housings where the other wires used to come out. Between the risers on the bottom drill two holes next to each other and remove the web between them so you have a racetrack shaped hole. No one has ever complained about rust; I am in the center of Florida where I am only about 75 miles either East or West to salt water!

I did it, looks awesome! Went inside the boxes and out of 2 holes between the risers. Drilled holes in the aluminum tree cap and used the SS wrap off of a sink hose to cover the wires from the handle bars to the tree. Thanks for the tips

I also went ahead and coated the exposed steel in the holes I drilled with clear nail polish, just to be safe.

LOL I printed that out last night as a guide, great article but didn't help me quite so much. My risers are 4 1/2" so the valve stems had to replaced w/ SS wrap. The dimensions he gave, for some reason, didn't match my bars either so it wound up not helping there. But could help someone else, good link
