stock pipe mod 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
I recently modified the stock pipes on my “07” RS, (stage 1, drilled 8 holes) and I’ve noticed a significant drop in my mpg. What can I do to improve the gas mileage?

Stop twisting the grip so much because you like to hear the pipes.

It's so true what the others said. I did the stage one mod on my 04 but still get 50mpg with normal er I mean reasonable riding. When it sounds so good to tach it up you find yourself taching it up more than necessary. Come on, admit it. You've been going a little further with the throttle since you did the mod haven't you?

I would weld the holes back up and get your back pressure to the engine. That is why you lost MPG's loss of backpressure! Those pipes may sound good but you pay in MPG.

I did the stage 1 on my 07 R* and didn't notice any change in fuel milage. Since the mod, I've put about 10,000 miles on it and it's still running great!

IMO the amount of back pressure lost from a stage 1 is negligible. In fact, I bet there is very little, if any lost. All of the baffling plates are still in place. With a stage 1 only the extreme rear plate is drilled. I don't think your fuel mileage loss has anything to do with a stage 1 mod. I did a stage 3 and didn't lose any MPG.

I did the Stage I mod on my 07 RS over 2 years ago and noticed no change (36-38 mpg). I did notice a change when the gas stations switched to the summer fuel blend. It goes back up in the fall. My next mod was the Baron BAK air breather and rejetted. The increased my MPG (40-45 mpg). I just bought Cobra Speedster Slashdowns because I wanted a little more sound
