anyone who's attempted to adjust the rear shock/spring preload knows what a PITA it can be . the wrench in the tool kit isn't even worth scrap price. I bought a craftsman 32mm open/box & cut in half. i then took a piece of 1/4x 1 1/2 flatstock & punched a oblong hole(9/16 x 1 1/4) . works slicker than east african gorrilla snot. if any member wants one, PM me. $5 + ups

unless you can get the bike 16-18in. off the ground, you have to cut the wrench in half. when you do that, it's hard getting the leverage needed.i also cut a section out of the box end to slip over the shaft, but i was able to adjust the spring w/ the open end. the piece of flat stock/slotted (oblong) hole allows me enough leverage to loosen/tighten the nut

Ironman,
I need to put a little tension on my spring, ( I do love to eat! )but I've been putting it off. I put the bike up on the lift and took a look at the spring, or what I could see of it, and freaked out! If you could, post a pick of your tool mod. I think I would feel better about going after it myself if I know what I need going in.

i'm no good at posting a pic, but i'll get someone ASAP. to increase the preload(1) look in the owners man. note the min/max length.YOU DON'T WANT COIL BIND.(2) loosen the jam nut. For more preload, turn the preload nut(the 2nd one) clockwise. Keep checking the measurement(end of spring/ shock end, pivot point. MAX distance 2.02in. don't exceed. retighten jam nut , good to go

There is a lot of slop in the OEM tool, the first time I used it I thought someone at the factory packed the wrong tool in my toolkit.
