The manual recommends just regular old motor oil. Disconnect the cable from the handle end and push it through the corner of a plasic bag. Tie it off to seal the bag around it and pour just barely enough oil in the bag to cover the end of the cable. Suspend the bag to let it drip down the cable. Just make sure you disconnect the case end and let it drain out well into anther plastic bag for a few hours at least (overnight is better), because it will make a mess dripping on your case otherwise.

Cheap and easy. Same process for the throttle cables. I just do them all at the same time.
