Alternative parts, lube, etc. 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I notice that some have a hard time finding some maintenance items we need for our bikes... OR some are marked up so high that we don't WANT to get them from Yamaha.
I've worked in auto parts for the last 30 years so I used that experience to find a few alternatives. They are parts that will fit and are easier to find or they are less expensive than factory but they are all available at either Nissan,Toyota or Honda car dealers. It's only a few numbers now but if I find more I'll add to them.

(I also have a Venture and a VStar so some of this applies to them)

I bought a case of Wix oil filters.. just 8-9 bucks/filter, case of 12, can't remember the number off hand. Also, that's in CDN.

I get a page not found, now that I have went back to a RoadStar (had a 2003, then ST1300 and now 2009 RoadStar) I would love to have a list of oil filters etc.

I had to change domain host a few weeks ago so none of the links to my domains work anymore. If I can find it I'll post it again.

The filters that I had on the list were both the long and short Nissan oil filters. They spec out the same as the Yamaha filter including the bypass pressure. When I was working at a Nissan dealer that's what I used. Part#'s 15208-31U00 and 15208-9E000.
Honda car filters work too but I don't use them because they are made by Honeywell (Fram).
