Fuel pump relocate ?? 2 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
Ok I am cleaning up the left side of the bike by relocating the fuel pump but have a question about the tech article. The very last picture in the article shows what it looks like under the tank. I see the fuel filter but what is the other item in front of the filter? It is it another filter added in or something else?? Is it needed??? Would go pumpless but not that gutsy yet to tear into carb and change everything out LOL .
Any input on doing this appreciated.

Where did you put your pump? My pump is under the tank as well as my fuel filter. Maybe that is what is in that picture.

I was following the directions to put it under the side cover. I thought about under the tank but did not know if it would fit or if it would get to hot under there. I have an 2006 1700. Fireman did you take any pics of it under your tank?? Although under the cover wont be to bad I just dont like all the lines running around LOL alot of hose .
Thanks Scotto for posting the pic from the article.

Mine is under the side cover, been there for almost two years. Not sure what that other item is in-line downstream.

No, I didn't take any pictures. I will when I take my tank off next time. It looks like there are 2 filters in that pic. One on each side of the pump. One is good enough for me.

I not sure why you would want two filters. Roughly where did you mount yours under the tank? Looks like it could fit above the carb and put the filter on the other side. Although there appears to be a depression under the tank above where it use to be located that would fit the pump.
Otherwise will go ahead with under the cover.

I put mine right behind the ignition switch mount. It was a tight fit, I had to "massage" the tank tunnel just a bit to get it to fit. The filter is zip tied to the side of the backbone. Under the side cover is an easier mod than under the tank. But you do need all that extra hose.

I just did mine a week ago. In the pictures that your looking at is the fuel pump up towards the front it circle around and I think back down under the intake housing. I didn't do that with mine. I ran mine under the side cover. Had run most of it pretty clean but the hoses get a little crunched in around the frame.
I didn't like the looks of running the fuel line back under the intake housing so I created a New metal line with using brake line. Bent it up so it would run down the right side of the frame. I took the insulation carefully off the old pipe and added it to my new one with a little extra heat tape. The tube is bent into a "S" shape but off set angles, one running down the frame and the other shoot over to the carb with the same small hose attachment. This way I have nothing running down on the left side of the frame
I have not posted any pictures on this site yet (pretty new) and hope to get out in the garage today for a bit. If so, I'll try to take picture for you????

Thats not the fuel pump up towards the front looks like another filter. Way to small for the pump. It is hard enough trying to find a good place to put the filter lol since it hangs to close to the motor for me when you place under the tank.
Wonder if it will be alright under the seat since I can just carry the tool pouch in my bags. Only concern would be if it ever leaked under there with the battery.
I agree all the hose is not that appealing so when I get a chance I might bend some fuel lines but for now just trying to find a good place for the filter.
