Apes and Windshields 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Well I never thought I would be trying to put a windshield on any bike much less one with apes. I guess the older I get the less I am concerned about coolness and the more I look for comfort and practicality especially since moving to where it gets a bit cooler. So the issue with apes and windshields is obvious - the shield rubbing the bars and/or cables. This is what I came up with...

Install 2 - 3/8" spacers behind the upper mounting bracket bolts on the upper triple tree

Install 8 - 1/4" spacers between the shield and the shield bracket.

With that done it no longer touches my clutch cable which is where I was having the issue. I will take some pics tomorrow for some reason my fluorescent lights in the garage make it hard to get a clear picture at night.

So, just out of curiosity.

Why do you keep all that rope on the back of your bike?

Gee so that's what's wrong I don't have a wife so I can go wherever I want to. I do have to drop bread crumbs if I get out of sight of my house; I'm getting old and forgetful.

If you are using a factory Yammy windshield setup, all ya gotta do is cut off the tab on the top mount of the windshield side bracket... this will allow you to move the windshield as far forward as you want... take a look at my sig pic... that is what I did and I have my 16's pushed forward too...

I used the stock silverado windshield i just loosened the top bolts and tipped it forward as far as it would go with the bracket still touching then tightned up the bolts again. works like a charm..I did put a bunch of electrical tape on each cable where the windshield touches and it hasnt worn through in about 3500 miles.

Dont have any good pics of th bracket but this is what it looks like on.

how about 2 chrome cable clamps ($12/piece)? ill take a pic tonight, but it looks pretty slick...probably a lot more so than electrical tape.

EDIT: you can actually kinda see the clamps in my sig pic

With the spacers I have in there I don't have to worry about the cables touching the windshield.
