getting scracthes out of your windsheild 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Ok this is going to sound crazy. just hear me out. It works believe it or not.
A while back my dad ran thriugh a lot of bugs. when he got home he didn't wash them off of his windshield. He dicided to try a s.o.s. pad to remove them.... that didn't work out so well. It left him with small surface scracthes...DUH!! anyway he was polishing his bike with MOTHERS polish. when he got to the chrome arround the windsheild he got some on the windsheild. he thought it was ruiended for sure. He said why not try this on a small part of the windshield and see what happens. so he did and when he wiped the MOTHERS off that part of the windsheild was almost like new. so he did the whole windsheild and now all but the deepest scracthes are gone. He took it a step further and tried it on a old pair of glasses ann it worked on them too!!! now i told him he was full of it. but when i bought my 2001 r* the windshield had a few small scracthes in it. so i tried a small part of mine and it worked... it blew my mind!! i have done it a few times now and i have zero problems with it...

What you need

1. mothers mag & aluminum polish
2. a mirco-fiber rag
3. a littlw elbow grease

and thats it..
IT WORKED FOR US!!!

Perfect timing, pulled my short summer windshield out today and noticed some small surface scratches on it and was wondering if there was anything that might help clean them up a bit.

THANKS A BUNCH, will give it a try.

Be carefull, The yami shields have some kind of coating on them I tried polishing out some scratches and rubbed through. It would look ok if I had the time and energy to remove the rest of this coating. Found a new Silverodo wide (+3" shield cheap on e-bay, now it's crystal clear and much better coverage to boot.

You are actually better off using an approved Plexiglas polish made to get scratches out of plastic type windows and aircraft canopy's.
You can also use crest tooth paste, I have used it to remove the cloud from the clear plastic shell a boat compass is housed in, they get cloudy from being in the sun and not covered up, to find out if mothers is really ok, after you do a small edge section position the windshield between you and the sun and look through it at different angles and make sure you dont see a bunch of what look like hairline cracks... that condition is called crazing, it usually happens when ammonia based product or Windex is used to clean plastic/Plexiglas windows.
Good luck and happy motoring

Curt you may need to start with a heavy rubbing compound first and gradually work your way down to the mothers! Lol
