I believe that Flatpockets put the Marvel Mystery Oil in his fuel tank, not the crank case.

Yes, you can run Marvel with your fuel. It has been around for quite some time and is an excellent top cylinder lubrication. Will clean up your sticky valves and carb from gum varnish. Just follow the directions on the bottle and your engine's heads will love it. I used it all the time in a 69' Dodge Dart 340 I had and in other bikes I owned. Keeps it all quiet, still use Marvel regularly and never had any complaints about it.

I have also heard a SMALL amount of diesel fuel in your tank once in a while works great to lube the top end.

I am a bit behind on this topic, but believe I hear a knock as well in my "05 * now that I have about 2700 miles on it. I have heard of using Marvel Mystery Oil in my gas... but have been a bit scared until now I see these posts. So let me get this straight.... you use it in your Roadstar and it cures the knock with no repecussions? How much do you put in your tank and how often? Thanks!

Post edited by: SemperFiPhil, at: 2005/08/13 07:13

I have used Seafoam and seem to help with the movement with the small carberator parts for a short time (that's all).

I have a pint of Yamaha Ring Free that is supposed to be proven and best to use for carbon build up.

I still believe any snake oil used in your gas or oil is only temperary. Changing driving habits like rpm's (for carbon) or even adjustments to the carb, valves can help silence the knock, one person has found slack in the bearings (bottom of engine).

Who am I anyway? I don't have a knock

I have a 2004 roadstar. I know what motor knock sounds like, but what I have is a metal 'pinging" sound under acceleration. Like metal being stressed. Its high pitched not like a knock. Does anyone else have this problem?

Today I was told by my wrench that using oil with friction inhibitors such Marvel Mystery Oil can cause clutch slipage....anyone have problems?

Although you can add it to the crankcase, most guys add a capful to the gas tank to clean up the top end.

I would try switching over to synthetic oil. Amsoil or Mobil 1 and ride the bike. See if anything changes during the course of a couple thousand miles. If it doesn't quiet it down a bit remember these are v twins and they make some noises but usually not anything to be concerned about. If you are still concered, I would get louder pipes!
