Re:Clutch spring 7 Months ago
FYI on the EBC spring-

I recently spoke with the EBC rep, and he confirmed it fits "a lot" of models, but didn't specify exactly which ones.

Important note: The EBC spring currently listed on a bunch of retail web sites is defective and unavailable.

EBC subcontracted a manufacturer to produce the spring for them, and even though they used a thicker gauge spring steel to address the "soft stock spring" issue, it turned out the MFG used an inferior grade of metal, so it was actually *weaker* than the stock Yamaha spring. That was several months ago and they've since been working with a new manufacturer to produce a better spring, but he's still waiting on delivery from EBC HQ in the UK. So as of the time I'm writing this, even if you find someone who currently happens to have an EBC clutch spring in stock, it's one of the old defective version.

The new springs were supposed to have arrived last week, but no such luck. He was actually going to ship me one as a test, to insure the new spec spring works before releasing it to the general market, but I'm still waiting. He said to check back with him this week, but for the record, someone else here on the Clinic, mentioned they'd been waiting since August for theirs and I get the impression the EBC rep is more hopeful than certain about when the new ones will arrive, so I'm not holding my breath.

For the record, the EBC spring part # is: CSK906. The rep described it as a "New and improved Diaphragm Clutch Spring".

The EBC spring is not a, "completely redesigned" billet, high end spring, like the Barnette, but a direct replacement based on the same design as the stock spring, and should be stiffer than the stock Yamaha spring. Unfortunately the EBC Reps said he will not know just how much stiffer it is until the new inventory arrives.

With a list of about $25, [v.s. the Barnette's $140+ price tag] I'd say it's worth a try. Besides, in this riders opinion, unless you have a significantly upgraded Roadie, using the Barnette is like using a jack-hammer, when a mallet will do, but that's just me.

Alternatively, for about $50-$75, you can try a Genuine Yamaha spring from one of the models previously mentioned, and double up.

I'm going to give the EBC rep another week or so and see what happens. I'll be sure to post any updates as more information becomes available.

Re:Clutch spring 7 Months ago
I have a stock RS spring like new, and a Stock Yamaha HD spring (What Warrior?) that was in for about 3 months booth look like new and worked just fine.

In my Case, while we were installing the Burnett we realized the factory stacked some of the plates metal to metal and that was my problem. The springs I have are fine if anyone wants em, I will sell em for Half the dealer price plus Shipping USPS. PM me.

I suppose all our weak clutch woes can be cured with the Shims. amazing. I could have kept these clutch springs, installed shims and had perfect set up.

No I won't comment on the shims any further, its Ron's gig. He asked Burnnet about it and the told him and he showed me! It visibly works you can see it happen while doing the clutch. If I expand on it, and spread my experience, I will get flamed just like I was going to crash and burn running a car tire. What 30K miles ago?

Re:Clutch spring 7 Months ago
FYI- just got an email from the EBC rep today. He said the new spring should arrive from the UK this week. If it gets here in time, I may try and install it this weekend. Fingers crossed that it arrives and more importantly, that it works! ...otherwise it's back to the drawing board for EBC and an even longer wait for everyone.

BTW- Any tips for installing the clutch spring that's not mentioned on the tech article? About how long is the job for a first timer?
