I think the 37.5, is a good small step.

The 180 DJ, and the 170 mikuni, are almost identical on the chart. With the clip in the fourth groove of the corresponding needle(DJ needle with DJ jet, and Mikuni jet with Baron's needle), you should be pretty good.[/quote]

I switched back to the 170 4th groove and it runs much better, still getting decel backfire with the PMS out 3 1/2. I ordered a 37.5 and a 40 pilot jet the other night so I still have to take it apart (at least) one more time to change the jet.. but I am almost there

Thanks for all of the help.. the Baron's 170 and 37.5 pilot seems to have cured my backfire problem. I got the pilot jets today now the PMS is out just a little shy of 2 1/2 turns. I put the 170 in last week and got 45 mpg on a run over the weekend, I'll have to see if the pilot jet makes any additional improvement.

My 01' had the stock 165 MJ and stock needle with a 37.5 pilot in it and popped on decel. I put a 182.5 MJ, Baron's needle on the 4th grove and installed the 35 pilot. I have V&H Long Shots w/baffles installed and a BAK, had a twin valocity that I didn't like. I doesn't pop on decel and runs great.

I forgot to say that I have all Mikuni jets in the carb.

Good Luck!!

my bike is kinda stock,
01 roadstar 1600
150/160 tire
Hk 3" pipes.
k&n filter.

im getting 18ish mpg.. from a full tank i get about 85/90 miles. ive seen people say they get 180-190 miles from a full tank.

i read up on the bike i noticed the said it has a tps sensor. now im starting to believe i was giving full throttle in to high of a gear.

at 60-70mph i was in 5th giving the bike some partial throttle and full pulls. other riders told me they saw and smelled fuel leaking from the pipes. bike idles fine no popping starts right up hot or cold. i never use the choke(im told this is bad)

anybody have an idea?? or am i right to assume the tps is dumping fuel when i do this?

Just as a comparison ... I have a 2000 R*. Stock. I get about 180 from a full tank. At 60, I'm topping 3rd gear and going to 4th. I usually don't have to hit 5th until 90 and higher -- and I'm rarely in 5th.

You should start a new thread for this one. Guaranteed you will get all the help you need to get in the 40's mpg area. You will have to answer questions of what mods to intake and exhaust and your current jetting. Hard to give advice without that info. But first start a new thread.
