By the time I would get all of that done It would be time to undo it Good advise though.
I ride unless there's snow on the ground.

You have all the bases covered for sure. I disagree with 1 or 2 points but I sure can't argue with doing anything you said. Did that make any sense

Did I get it right this time?

Re:How to winterize your bike 4 Years, 6 Months ago
My friend is a woman and basically I wrote this long detailed explanation for her because she was very excited about her first bike, then suddenly everyone started scaring her about what to do and what not to do to store her bike for the winter. I just wanted to give her some of the pros and cons and reasons for doing and not doing things.

Even though my list is long in explanation, it really follows my philosophy of a minimalist approach to storing a bike for the winter, which basicall is to clean it; fill the tank with gas (stabilize the gas) and park it. Done. This is more than enough for the few months our bikes are dormant during the cold weather. Besides, this simple method allows for the occasional trip or two during the winter when we have some warm days. If you want to ride it, go ahead it's ready, just repeat this simple process when you park it back in the garage after you have frozen your *** off.

Take care!

Jeff

Interesting read. Thanks.

I don't agree with everything you wrote but one won't go wrong by following your suggestions.

The Seafoam info is especially interesting .... I'm going to have to find out more about using it as a gas conditioner.

Doc

Apparently you can use it as a diesel fuel conditioner and antigel

Stabilizes fuel as well

Draining the carburetor of gas (letting the bike idle with the “petcock” turned to the off position until the bike dies) and letting the carb sit dry over the winter will only increase the chances of the gaskets and seals in your carburetor drying out. Leave ‘Um Wet!

Hi jeffgolem,

You’re advices on winterizing are right on the spot, especially the warning letting the carb sit dry over the winter. When I think about it, I find it very logical.

I would have liked to get your post before I winterized my bike a week ago because for the first time this year, I’ve turned the petcock off and drained the carb until the bike died. (I always used stabilizer in a full tank). I was very reluctant to do it, but so many people over the years told me to do so, I finally decided to try it.

I’ve never drained the carb in the past and never had any problem with the carb’s components gumming up on me. The monster always regained life after one or two push on the starter. Hope the darn carb’s gaskets and seals won’t shrink on me!

Great winterizing instructions. Thanks.

facemask in so cal? c'mon, I ride here in northeastern Ohio right on the lake as long as its not snowin or rain'n. I usally dont need face protection till around 30 degrees. I guess I'm used to it though I used to be an Ironworker in the Cleveland area, and it gets even colder the higher you go. Visited my brother in San Diego not to long ago (Pacific Beach) weather was unreal! love to live out that way. I guess if it were'nt for the cost of housing and the helmet law I'd be all over it!
