So I guess since every single day the local police are in the same places with their car radar and hand held laser guns etc detecting vehicle speed, I'm just gonna have to ask them to clock me in their speed trap and come back around for a 'how fast was I going?' I hope they don't give me and crap for asking, but I'm seriously going to do it. Also do a time to distance @ 60mph, 70mph and 80mph using a stopwatch. All of this of course after I get back from MI vacation Maybe go do a 1/4 mile run for the helluvit at the local drag track.

The SpeedoHealer is the way to go and it's very easy to install.

Wow, everybody's and Expert, did you read all the explanations below the article, was the guying writing the article an expert on calibration, radar, gps, tires and so on? When I first got my bike it was 2 mph off, vs. radar and gps, my friend had a brand new C50-T that was 4 mph off, dag gone it's hot outside, to hot to ride, Almost say's it's 99, feels like 103, I think it's 103 and feels like 107

I bet that this offset in the speedo calc. stems from the manufactures liability.

I'm sure it does. I just can't find the Federal Regulation (and you know there IS one) that covers it right now.

I would assume, if the manufacture produced vehicles that were 6% to 8% high and owners were getting tickets or more importantly 'accidents' because of this miss calibration. The owners (specially accident victims and their family members) would then sue the manufacture for negligence claiming they produce unsafe vehicles causing the accident and or violation. The manufactures insurance would sky rocket and recalls would have to be done and bad publicity. Similar to what happened to Toyota about a year ago. They are in the clear when it's set a little low.

Just my $.02

Sounds like a very reasonable $.02. I, for one, don't mind it. I know its there but more often then not I still cruise at what looks like 75. If that saves me from a ticket, great! Same reasoning that causes me to set my clock 5 minutes ahead even though I know its wrong everytime I look at it.

I remember reading something on the figures, and the standard quoted was along the lines of +2%-8%, to give the manufacturers room. In order to ensure the standard is met, they typically aim at the middle. I'll find it later.
