Also, the Suzuki valve costs more than twice as much as the Yamaha one if I remember correctly. The Grizzly valve is made for gravity feed while the Suzuki valve isn't.

I feel like a dentist.
What exactly is it, that makes the Grizzley needle and seat work better for gravity flow?...the taper of the seat? I've already spent twice as much as I needed to for the suzuki valve, 100% more then what Questcap and others have suggested would work fine, I might as well spend a bit more.

I'm running the stock valve and have had no issues, but then I live in the crowded NE, and I don't get to ride 90 anywhere. I have run 85 for a bit, coming home from ME last May, but it didn't hiccup at all when I did.
I'm going to sock away that grizzly valve number for future reference, however.

Me to. Since it should be all about rpms, and not speed necessarily, the stock should be just dandy. If there is a particular thing that sets a gravity flow needle apart from the others......and I don't think scott's letting gas go by (that was sad )...It'd be good to file away in my handy bits of info file. That's the file that stays locked up when you need something, and opens after the fact

The Grizzly valve has 2 holes up where the tip of the needle seals. Fuel flows out of those instead of being restricted from having to flow past the body of the needle.
If you look at the stock and Suzuki valves you'll see that there isn't all that much room between the body of the needle and the seat it fits in. Works okay when a pump is being used but not as good for gravity feed. The HSR carburetor valves are built the same way.

I got rid of the fuel pump, added the Suzzy needle & seat, used a Pingel High Flow Tap, Pingel Filter and vented the cap. It ran good for a while then started missing badly when the fuel got down to 1/2 a tank. I had my dealer lift the float level to 1700 specs, great no more trouble.

Ahhhh..... Another piece to the possible pumpless starvation issue falls into place. Thanks Aussie I'm set up similar to you, and did the float adjustment when I went pumpless. I haven't had a single issue that could be traced back to a lack of a fuel pump so far.
