Fuel Pump Relocated 5 Years, 8 Months ago
Hi,

I have an 03 R* that I just finished Jetting/Porting/stage 3 exhaust/AIS removal/and pump relocation. {carb is at 167.5/2onPMS/4onclip}

When I went to start it back up after completing my mods, I heard some noise form the pump.

Can someone confirm for me what I am hearing after moving my fuel pump, using the method for under tank location:

The fuel lines and carb where completely empty when I went to turn it on, the pump buzzed for a few minutes, each time I try starting it up, until the gas got to the carb. Then the bike chugged along pretty good.

- Now it seems, when I turn the key on, the pump will still buz pretty loud for about 10 seconds then stop.

- Also, it seems that I can hear the pump humming during operation. I did ot hear the pump at all when it was in the stock location.

Would this have anything to do with the new location of the pump, or because it was empty while starting?

Any thought / suggestions on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike in San Jose, CA

Post edited by: 03MochaStar, at: 2006/09/17 02:22

Mine used to tick

Under the tank location is a tight fit and sometimes the pump presses against the tank. The tank then amplifies the normal noise it makes on startup.

Check to make sure the pump is not rugging agains the bottom of the tank as some have had problems after many miles

You can also wrap the pump with rubber such as an old inner tube.
