well ive thought about that too,the "alot of bike issue" its actually laid on my mind alot, i hang around alot of "biker" well "rider" guys, lol, and imma big guy too,and about 90% of them say that as long as i respect the bike, and dont be an idiot then i will be ok,1 of the people that i trust most in the world is a big harley guy,and i thought he would be a little biased with me,but we went to look at it together (again for me) saturday, and he said that if act like an idiot on it then im gonna get excactly what i ask for,and if i act like i have some sense and respect then everything will be fine.tho it does wiegh on my mind a bit, but i feel confident.
i just cant resist it tho, i mean i was up there looking at some bikes, and of cours ethesalesman was trying to put me in every bike there, then it seemed that something caught the corner of my eye,i looked up and without even seeing the paintjob on the bike it seems as if the bike was absoloutly screaming at me to come over there, the flames were a bonus, lol, and when i sat on it,it was almost as if i just molded to the bike,it is a heavy bike, but it felt good,i fet like i could control it,and it felt very balanced.
Another reason i want to go with a bike this big,is becasue i dont want to get a smaller one and then in a few years decide i want a bigger one,ive always been the type that if you want to do something right,do it right the first time.meh' thats just me tho
I still have a few weeks to make a concrete decision,im going to take this class and get the safety instruction needed, then im going to by me a bike.hopefully this one.

Come and be broke like the rest of us. Once you get it, you'll get bit by the modify bug. There are tons of things that you can do to the bike to make it you--Heck, I just sign my paycheck directly over to the mod shop. lol

I say go for it. I recently started riding again after 25 years. I took the MSF course this weekend and it was a great class. I more confident now in my abilities and more aware of my surroundings. Welcome aboard.

Gezz man, you're getting everyone excited!
The problem that I had was not thinking everything through before modifying. I let other people convince me on what mods to be done. When you get the bike, ride it and learn it for awhile. There's thousands of websites and custom shops out there. Here in Charlotte, there are so many places that can customize it for you. Every year, I go to the EasyRiders show. It's all cusom v-twins. Local shops comes down and show-off their abilities.
When it comes down to customizing your bike, take it slow and think it through. Seroiusly, I started with Yamaha of Gastonia. I gave them $3,500 to do a lot of work (a ton of money goes to labor--this site will show you how to do a lot of stuff yourself). After a few months, I wasn't impressed with the mods so, I started all over. Honestly, I paid for the bike twice with all of the mods that I started and then re-did.
But enjoy it and don't hesitate to ask tons of questions. Lots of guys here with real knowledge of these types of bikes--not just talkers.

i think this forum is EXCACTLY what i have been looking for.
as of late it seems that everytime i turn around, when asking someone for advice on bikes, i always get the same answer."what a re you getting" i say "2k8 roadstar" and they say "no, for real what are you getting" all the guys i know ride harleys and stuff, and they are nice, dont get me wrong, but i guess they arent for all people, just yesterday i had a guy trying to put a harley on me and i explained to him what i had my eye on,and he says to me, you know that 95% of them are still on the road, the other 5% made it home......
as nice as these bikes appear to be,i cant figure out why some people go out of their way to hold you down for wanting one. but the bottom line is,is that im not buying a bike for them,im buying a bike for me and at the end of the day,its only me who has to be impressed, so i give them 2 choices....they can get over it or die with it.
i already feel accepted here, thanks guys.

fulgoar. I think you'll find everyone here willing to help, all you have to do is ask. There are no stupid questions,so don't hesitate to ask if you don't know. We've all been there at one time.
Good luck with the MSF course

Dan - Cryinggame has a good point. Get the bike and ride it a while, get to know it, look around and take your time with the mods. I'm willing to bet that someone on the clinic has the mod or part that you may be interested in and can & will give advice. Determine a direction you want to go and then gradually work on it. Otherwise your bike could turn into a real hodge-podge. My father in law is living testament to that. He isn't sure if he wants a custom chopper look, bagger look or a cruiser look. Anyways, you've made a good choice of a bike for sure. the other advice I would give if you've haven't purchased yet would be to look into used bikes. There are LOTS of used bikes out there where people have bought them, put maybe 200 miles a year on them and thats it for half the price. There's lots of threads on this also. Use the "Search Forum" box in the upper right corner of this page to help find them. Don't want to overwhelm you as there's SO much to read on the clinic.
btw - I'm originally from Rutherfordton just west of you.
and of course Welcome tot he clinic!!!

I wish I had a nickel for every hour I've spent on craigslist.com many late nights spent there looking at used bikes, however I have never owned any vehicle with zero miles.....ever. At the moment I am fortunate enough to have discplined myself enough to save enough money to purchase a brand new bike and make it mine the day I walk out of the dealership, no payments no hassling phone calls, nothing. I have saved for about 2 years for this moment, however I am giving my choice the benifet of the doubt and still going to look at more bikes over the next few weeks.
