I run Royal Purple 20/50 car oil. My bike likes it. My bike doesn't like Amsoil. You need to try different oils until you find the one your bike likes.  Of course there's nothing saying you won't find that oil on the first try either.  |

FWIW, I've been using Mobil 1 15w-50 in every air-cooled IC engine I own, whether mower, snowblower, or wet-clutch bike for over 20 years. It does not have the energy-conserving words in the circular API grade label, so it does not have those evil friction modifiers that can damage a clutch.
I've used it for a couple of decades and many thousands of miles and hours... no engine has ever failed or worn out while I've been a user.
My Roadie seems to be perfectly content with it, as does my V-Star 1100 Custom.
A 5 qt. jug is now about $23.84 at WalMart, as they just raised their price... and only put 4 qts in your bike. Yama calls for 4.3... forget that.

Hey Txroaddog...  My star has gone from OEM dino oil to Amsoil synth to Castrol 20/50 synth... So far, she likes the Castrol best... Who'da figured... My baby would be a cheap date?!? |

I broke my 8 year old new bike in with the normal Yamaha oil, then when I did the hi compression piston change I switched over to Mobil 1 20-50 and have had wonderful luck with it, I have 5000 miles on this oil and it looks clean as honey, I am going to change it every 8 to 10 thousand as per the Yamaha manual for a while and see how it comes out. I rode it to Missouri (750 Miles) and did an oil filter change only out there. Really made a difference in the oil color.
So far I really like this Mobil 1 oil, it’s available so that’s why I used it.
