#109302 Popeye20411 (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 1 Turn petcock off after every ride???? 3 Months, 1 Week ago   New to Road Star, bought used 05 1700 with 2500 km. Previous owner advised to turn off petcock after every ride. I have not done this on previous bikes. I understand there is a risk of gas pouring into motor, is this a serious risk??? Bike came with DD straight pipes and it is to loud for my wife and neighbors so going back to stock. May have to modify them if they are too quiet!! The point of the handle should face straight forward, the length of it parallel to the ground. You won't like the stock mufflers. I was having an issue with it burping gas about 2 minutes after shut down and since I do that, no more. I imagine things are different on a FI model. And he's right about the stock exhaust. Do the stage one at least. I never do it because I ALWAYS forget to turn in back on before I ride. Then, well you know. But, I also don't have the gas puking problems some have mentioned. Personal preference I think. If your bike needs it, do it. If not I don't think it will hurt the bike. The dealer suggested that i turn the pitcock off when it is in the sun for long periods of time.
