I've never bothered and have never had any problems.

Seems to be a problem for some and not for others.

I turn mine off at every opportunity... after letting it run for 15 - 20 seconds... and my '99 still pukes on a regular basis.

I turn mine off if it's going to sit very long. It don't take very many times and you remember to turn it back on when you take off. But I don't forget

I've never had a problem on the r* with leaving it on at all times. But I had a honda Shadow that i absolutely had to shut it off, or it would drain the gas tank into the carb.

Honda... Turning riders into mechanics one at a time!

ya ya ya I know

my virago did not have a petcock which allowed you to turn it off, it was designed to have an automatic shut off... one day I came out and tried to start it and the engine wouldn't turn over, I found the front cylinder full of fuel.... I pulled the spark plug and turned it over and it blew all the gas out... but I then changed the oil because I know gas drained past the rings into the oil... and I also know someone who had the lower end of his bike blow up because of gas build up in the crankcase... or at least thats what his story is... and yes it literally blew apart the bottom of his engine...

Mine>>>>> If it is not running petcock goes to off! Stuck carb float needle can make a mess if it's left on. Don't know if gas will flow through fuel pump when it's turned off, but I am not taking a chance.

I ALWAYS turn it off since my Roadie resides in the garage with the water heater. Said water heater has a dandy little flame for a pilot. When i get done riding I leave the Roadie in the driveway in the shade to cool down and shut off the petcock in case it pukes 9never has but other bikes I've owned have). I also run it for a few seconds after I hsut the petcock to empty the system as much as possible of fuel. just not a good idea to have fuel in a line that could leak or drip with flame nearby.

I may be a bit paranoid but I saw a garage and house burn to the ground as a kid caused by a vehicle fuel leak.

If you don't have a fuel pump (gravity feed) turn the gas off. If you have the pump the gas isn't going anywhere unless you park it and leave the key on. Do you notice how much the pump clicks in the morning after sitting all night? That's because the bowl is empty. It's empty because the gas isn't going through the pump when the key isn't on. Of course you have to make sure you don't have any leaks in the hoses or anything but you should do that anyway. My 2 cents anywho.
