New addition to the members :):) 3 Months ago
Hi all, I am a new member and I own a Yamaha RoadStar Silverado.

I have the R* since 2000. It runs really well until I had a recall done on it.

The recall is the one about a part in the transmission that can break.

Since the recall, my starter has failed 3 times.

I have been riding my bike with a lot of pleasure but now my spirits are being
tested. I still feel Yamaha and the RoadStar is a good bike but I don't want to
be stuck with a bad bike. I plan a tour of the USA but I don't know if I want to
do it with this bike now.

I joined the forum to try to seek if others have had the same problem and how you
guy's has fixed this situation.

My bike is paid and I don't really want to get a new bike and new payments.

Seeking hope.

Sorry to hear about the starter problems. Seems there can be gremlins in every nook and cranny of any two-wheeled beast.

Here's a link to a tech article in Road Star Magazine about replacing your stock starter with one from a Warrior. I don't know if this will cure your starter issues or not, but figure it's worth a look.

Welcome to the discussion here. I know you'll find lots of good folk willing to help out with whatever issue you have.

GerviasB!

Your bike is a very good and reliable bike overall check out the tech section like Mark7 suggested.
I will say though my friend has a 2000 with 40000miles on it and after the recall was done he started having all kinds of problems, fuel pump went out, starter when out TPS on the carb went out, clutch cable broke, as well as some mystery electrical problems with the coils. He got it all fixed and it's running well now and as he said to me "well I've done nothing but change the oil for 40,000miles so I guess I'm just due."

Greetings and Salutations! I put a Warrior Starter on mine after the piston change and I have never had a problem. The warrior starter apparently wound different and gives you 30% more starting power. Cranking over those Hi-compression pistons is a chore!
Anyway, you won't have to buy a new bike for another million miles now.
You have arrived at the Road Star Mecca of information!
