Hello,
I'm new here and have been looking for a while on R* topics of interest. I am looking forward to getting help and helping if I can.
I last rode in about 1975. I recently bought a 2002 Midnight Star from my wife's brother in California, which makes this my 4th or 5th bike. I am an older rider and I bought this strictly for saving on gas costs I try to drive conservatively, but those D&G pipes make me kick it!

It is a great looking bike, but I can live without the studs. I've been having some issues (which I will address on the right thread).
The description sent to me by previous owner is as follows:

2002 Yamaha Midnight Road Star, 1602cc (98-inch) 8-valve, dual plug, air-cooled, pushrod V-twin, 5-speed trans, belt drive.
39,000 mi, garage kept, new battery, Metzeler ME880 tires. Comes factory-equipped with black powdercoated engine, chrome fork legs & billet triple trees, and chrome headlight nacelle. Never in an accident or dropped...I'm the original owner.

Optional equipment:
(Yamaha) Tall sissy bar & backrest, tank bib, engine guards, w/ Royal Star windscreen, hard leather bags, pass. floorboards
(Yamaha) Ball-milled billet chrome cam, starter & belt adjuster covers. Billet alternator & swingarm pivot covers, fr. fender rail, f/r fender trim
(Yamaha) Factory shop manual
(National Cycle) Billet chrome luggage rack
(T-Bag) Large custom-fitted travel bag & convertible top roll / day bag (shown in photos)
(Kuryakyn) Iso-Grips & Iso-Pegs mounted on engine guards, chrome front brake & clutch levers
(Corbin) Custom rider saddle & passenger pillion
(Barons) Big Air Kit w/ K&N air cleaner, Dyno-jet kit & flamed billet chrome cover, fuel pump relocation kit, Big Radius drag bars.
(Dynatek) Dyna 3000 programmable ignition module
(DG Hard Krome) 2 1/2' Kicker pipes (full-length heat shields)
(Adjure) Clear halogen reflector-beam headlight unit
Clear Lexan fork-mounted windshield lowers
Braided steel front brake lines
12V / 10amp marine-quality power port (mounted on top of triple tree)

I pulled off the saddlebags and tank apron. Want to pull off the sissy bar/luggage rack, but want something for a passenger to hang onto for now.

I will post pics later.
I have 9 children and they love it.

One at a time

BTW - I just read about clearing out carbon and will put my bike back together and clean it out. I think that may be my problem. I've been having vibrations that will shake out your eyes and fillings. It gets worse as engine heats up. I realized that the exhaust sounds like the rear cylinder hits harder every other cycle. It sounds like bom boom bom boom from the one pipe. The other (front) sounds fine with a bom bom bom bom. Even when I accelerate I can hear the difference now....and it's gettin' worse.
Out to the garage!

9? My 3 have me almost going bald. And then there's the grandson. Wouldn't trade any of them or the experience for anything...not even a new R*. Rayjay
