Re:Road Star as first bike? 3 Years ago
I asked myself (and others) the same question two years ago when I was looking to purchase my first road bike. I already owned a Kawasaki KLR 650 which is a dual sport bike but with a much different feel. After getting lots of mixed responses to my question about "what size should I get", I decided to visit a local dealer to test ride a number of bikes. I tried the V Star 1100 and 1300, thinking I should stay with something in that size range. I'm 6'2" and neither of those bikes felt right so I reluctantly tried the Road Star thinking it was too big.....the rest is history. The R* felt good from the beginning. As others have already pointed out, start slow and get used to the bike. While I never dropped my bike, I will admit it almost hit the ground a couple times during slow maneuvers. It took every ounce of strength I had to keep to bike up. I eventually figured out how to avoid those situations and haven't had a problem sense. If you are riding two up, this bike is big enough to handle two adults with ease...I tease my wife that I have to check every now and then to make sure she is still there! Bottom line, I wouldn't hesitate getting the R*.
