New to forum... 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Hello to all; looks like there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I ride a 2002 RoadStar with a few additions...(Bub Stubbies, Max Air Kit, Drag Bars & other miscellaneous chrome items). I love the bike. Just recently started experiencing problems with exhaust turning gold; this was after taking bike in for service to a "Super Duper metric bike mechanic". Perhaps someone on this forum would be willing to share their expertise with a "newbie". I live in Houston, Texas and would really like to hear from anyone out there who has had a similar problem with their exhausts.

Welcome! That is normal for a little exhaust discoloration. I would probably pull the spark plugs to make sure they look to be burning clean, but a little gold I wouldn't be too concerned with. Do those pipes have heat shields?

Yes they have heat shields. It is more than "a little" gold. I started the bike up and you could actually see them turning gold. Is this condition a sympton of the bike running too lean? If so, any suggestions. I have no idea what size my jets are or what the PMS is set at. I just wanted to "test" the waters before I start changing anything. I have a couple of thousand miles on these pipes without any previous problems.....thanks for the response.

Sounds like it's lean .What did you send it in for? Did he mess with the carb? How does the bike run. (hesitation, poping thru the carb)?
