Hey, I'm new to the roadstar scene but right off the bat i'm questioning my purchase. I took delivery of a 2006 midnight silverado 1700 2 weeks ago. At first i loved this bike. the dealer gave me a full tank and my wife and i took to the road a little bit. Well long story short i had to refill so i put premium in it and the bike is popping, vibrates and rides like a lumber wagon. Dealer said don't use premium so i drained tank and put regular unleaded in it. i've gone about 75 miles and no change. So before i melt down thought i would see if anybody else had this issue thanks for any ideas

To start with...you did not make a mistake buying a Road* and
The dealer was correct. Regular gas is recommended for Road*'s. Did you get and owners manual with your bike?
Does you bike have the stock OEM exhaust?

Don't get to discouraged yet. You are in the right place. I am new to the r* myself. But I have gotten alot of good advice from the clinic already. I run prem all the time and it does fine. You have made a good purcase. And with a little patience, you will get the prob fixed, and save alot of $$$$ doing it. Good luck and

First...
Second...like it was said, 87 octane is just fine for R*, but higher octane should not caused what you described.
Third...the dealer should have given you more info, instead of "don't use high octane". I hope the dealer doesn't know something that they didn't tell you.
Lastly...You bought the best of the best. I have the sme bike (mine is an '05 though)
Good luck. This is the greatest site for Roadies!!!

kpdustin,
Check the forum for discussion threads on gas grades. Unless you are running high compression pistons, premium gas is not recommended. I found this out from following this forum shortly after buying my Road* in '08. I've been running regular ever since.

Welcome to the Clinic! Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. The Road Star is an absolutely fantastic machine! It does not need high test gas but that shouldn't make it run terribul. Get a can of Sea Foam and put the entire can in a tank full and see if that helps any. Take a look at the sparkplugs perhaps put in new ones. Unfortunately you have to remove the tank to get to the plugs. Do you know if anything has been done to the air filter, the exhaust, carb jeting, etc?

Welcome!!!! Mine is an 05 Midnight Silverado.
Clifford is right... even with my limited mechanical experience, I know that when the engine is shaking it's (almost always) because not all cylinders are firing. How many miles on your bike?
As for the Seafoam... it says on the bottle to put about 1 oz for each gallon of gas... so that's my advice.
