I agree that it could be bad gas..It ran fine until you filled it up and that is when it started running bad? Better check the easy stuff first.

Can't add to anything already said, except check the easy stuff first I have an 06 and it runs great. If it has 16,000 miles on it it most likely needs to be serviced. The stock air filters can fall apart easily. Fuel filter needs to be changed also. I'm sure you'll get it figured out so don't give up on a good bike yet.

I had a good ride when the dealer sold my bike to me. A week later there were huge problems. I just had OEM jets and a tune up done. YooHoo, it runs great.
Laughlin River Run this week, hopefully it doesn't snow too much the next couple of days. I got to get there.

Murray, First off WELCOME. Second...I bought my '07 brand new off the floor. The shop mechanic is friend of mine and he told me a few things to be aware of owning a big twin like the Roadie. First, the motor design is VERY close too the Harley EVO engine. The R* has a 40 lb crank with huge lobes which will cause the bike to vibrate and shake more than other makes and models of bikes. Then again it just may need a tune up. Second, if the AIS is still hooked up, it will pop through the exhaust and from time to time it may cough thru the carb. Mine has coughed thru the carb since day 1 and iI have asked several mechanics about it and they all said it is normal and will happen from time to time.

I have been riding since I was 8. I am 35 now, and have ridden or owned just about every make of bike and the Roadie is by far the best I have owned and/or ridden. I have almost 16,000 miles on mine and I run high octane with a 3 oz of octane boost per tankfull. The mechanics I know and have talked to have all told me it does not matter what grade of gas to use. I have noticed with octane boost i get 4-5 more miles per gallon. Riding 2 up with luggage @ 80 miles per hour on I-75 thru KY and TN up and down hills all the way, I avg 39 mpg with jetting and pipes.

Now your situation may be different, but what you described sounds like the same things I noticed about my Roady new and was told was normal. Just my 2 cents worth. Don't worry....the Roadie is the way to go.

kpdustin,
Check the forum for discussion threads on gas grades. Unless you are running high compression pistons, premium gas is not recommended. I found this out from following this forum shortly after buying my Road* in '08. I've been running regular ever since.

Hey bill thanks for the info. I will check it out. Not running high comp pistons, but it does have a couple of upgrades. Bigger carb, intake, and exaust. But I run prem in everything I drive and have never had a prob. I seem to get 5 to 10% better mpg's on anything I put it in. Thanks again.

First of all from San Diego, CA.

I was kind of in the same boat. This was my first R* and cruiser. I had rode sport bikes prior to it. Well, it is a 2005 R* Silverado and it had sat in a garage for 3 years before I had bought it and still had all stock parts.( I was still in love with her though, cause I knew what she could become. I had been riding along side TROB's bike for a few months ) Of course when I first rode it I thought there is something terribly wrong with this bike. It had vibrated beyond galore, seemed like it made to much clunking sounds from the engine. I had to ride with the choke almost half way out to keep it from stalling and pulled the whole "Uncle Buck" backfire when I shut it down. To keep it short, the clinic (and TRO let me know there were a few things I needed to do to clean her up a bit. Began with a few treatments of Sea Foam, which helped a lot. Then I knew I needed to get the carb cleaned out and change out all the fluids. I knew I wanted to replace the stock pipes, so waited until those came, then I went ahead and cleaned the carb, updated the air box and removed the AIS. OMG, she sounds amazing!!!!

Well, that is my two cents...This clinic will be there for anything you may need. They are a great group of Guys and gals

Re:!st time Roadstar owner 3 Years ago
first i want to thank everybody for the response to my message. So far I have went out a purchased the items for my roadstar. I went looking for the plugs and i called a couple local dealers, i live in rochester ny so i have many to choose from. well the plug prices went from 10.99 per plug to 12.99 i thought that was a little steep so i checked on web. I found the NGK iridium plugs on amazon for 6.99 per plug so just waiting for them to show up. I also purchased moble1 synthetic 20w50 and a oil filter.I got some seafoam and deep creep. just need to get a fuel filter and a cold 6pack. My bride is confused why i have to spend this kind of money on a bike i just purchased but the dealer is being little bit of a richard. just nice way to say dick. he says their warranty consists of me paying half and them paying other half. well at 88 bucks an hour i'll just do it myself. lesson learned. anyway by end of this week i'll hope to have her straightened out i'll let you know. It's raining here in upstate ny but when the weather permits i'll be out in the wind.....peace
