About to buy a 2004 Road Star 1700 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Great site! I am about to buy a 2004 Yamaha Road Star 1700. Has 33000 km or about 14000 miles. Is there anything anyone can think of that i should be looking for before i buy. Any input will be appreciated. I am not new to the bike world but am new to Road Stars. I am not a mechanic but can change oil

Thanks

First

Second, the 04's are good bikes I have an 05. Some people have reported having Sticky Valve Syndrome SVS with the 04's but, I think it's not as wide spread as it sounds. 14,000miles is barely broke in. Is there any mods to the bike? pipes, Air Cleaner, etc?
Also check out our tech section there is a wealth of info there too.

Thanks for the welcome. VH pipes are the only modification. And i am exploring the site as i type! What do i look for with the "sticky valve syndrom"?

I wouldn't worry about SVS just change your oil add 4 qts no more and forget about it. Mostly it happens with too high of oil level. Yamaha actaully recommends more oil than should be in there (they sent a quiet memo to dealers about it) and the process of checking the oil by Yamaha is extremely complicated.
Good luck with your new R*
