Good Day RSC members!
I just joined the forum after lurking here for several months. A little about myself, I grew up farming outside a small community in Kansas. I was brought up believing that if something did not have four legs or a minimum of four wheels it was not meant to be ridden or driven. I worked 12 hour shifts as a mechanic in a factory for 25 years to pay for the privilege of spending the money earned there to stay up and work the remaining 12 hours a day farming to get rid of it. Got too old to work 24 hours a day so got out of farming, then several more years of driving my 4-wheel drive truck to work with high gas prices got me to thinking (dangerous). All of my friends had bikes and I really was missing the open air. Figured why not, found an old 82 Kawasaki 750 CSR that had been setting unattended for 8-10 years in the back of an old farmers barn, and decided to fix her up to see if I could like riding cycles. Okay, I was immediately hooked. The wife gave me a hard time about hitting my mid-life crisis but then she figured it was better with a 26 year old motorcycle than a 26 year old woman and let it go. Around Father's Day I took the 750 to the store and came home complaining about no good way to haul anything. The wife told me to go down to the local used bike shop and see if I could scrounge up a set of saddle bags and buy myself a gift. Well I found a set of bags I liked, but had to buy the 2001 Roadstar they were attached to, to get them. Darn the luck! So, here I am, a relatively novice cyclist who has spent his entire life turning wrenches to make a living. I will have some questions (hope you do not get tired of my asking). The bike has been diddled with a fair amount by the previous owner. Some stuff I want to keep, other items I think it will be best to return to original or at least something different. I look forward to your expert advice on how to proceed. Thank you in advance.
