Hello Roadstar riders,
My name is Gary Latka. I have a 2005 black cherry Roadstar with V&H longshots HS pipes and K&N flamed air cleaner and a chromed breather. Also installed back rest and passenger floor boards for the wife. I love this bike. I recently owned a Kawasaki 1600 Nomad that was totaled in an accident. The Roadstar is a much better bike. The bike runs great and feels more stable than the Kaw.
I am so glad I found this site. It is full of info and since I don't have a manual it has really been helpfull to me.
I live in Lehigh Acres, Florida just minutes from Fort Meyers and I work in Naples at the Naples Daily News. I am the Pressroom Supervior and have been in the newspaper industry for nearly 25 years. I've been riding bikes since I was a teenager and have owned many bikes over the years. I look forward to chatting with you all.
Gary

Thanks Dave,
I've been reading about all the mods that guys are making to there carbs and have been wondering if my bike is set up properly. I bought it used from a dealer. It had the V&H longshots HS pipes on already and had the stock air box. I put on the Yamaha flamed plate with the K&N filter but did not do anything to the carb. The bike runs fine, it starts without using the choke and I can pull away in less than 2 minutes of warm up. It runs great at all speeds with no stumble. When I do start it there is a small puff of black smoke from the pipes and it settles into a nice idle right away. The AIS in intact and I get an occasional backfire at the carb when I blip the throttle at a stop.
By the way my wife calls me the King#1.

Hello All,
My name is Jason. I have been in the Army for 15+ years, and still serving. I am married with 6 children. I bought my first Motorcycle in 97 and rode until the Army moved me to Oklahoma in 02. It was an 81 Kawasaki KZ650CSR. I sold it when I moved. The Army moved me to upstate NY. I am now back in the saddle again, on a 06 Candy Red, Road Star. I ABSOLUTELY love this bike. I couldn't be happier about my purchase. I have done the Stage 1 exhaust mod, FAT BAK MOD, removed all the badges. This is only the beginning. The AIS removal is next. I'll be hanging here for a long time. I am glad to have found this place.

Hi Jason....
Welcome to the boards! Sounds like you love your bike just about as much as we all love ours! I've been thinking about doing the FATBAK as well to get some more airflow.
Where abouts in OK did you live? I'm in Tulsa.
Again...welcome and have fun here! I've learned a lot from these guys!

I was stationed at Fort Sill. I was a Drill Sergeant for that stay.
The FATBAK has given me midrange and topend power that is noticable. However, at idle, when i 'blip' the throttle it 'coughs'. This is random and happens more when she is cold. I'm sure the AIS is causing some problems(pops on decelerate), which will come off this week.

Post edited by: JDoza, at: 2006/06/26 06:52

Welcome Jason and thank you for your service!
That red is a great color, my wife and I cruised by the dealer a few weeks back and saw one...it was striking. Ride safe!
