Cass,
I hunt with an old Hoyt Super Slam Supreme, one of the best shootin bows I've ever shot. I also have a newer Hoyt split limb contraption the "striker" I think, not bad but I'll stick with my super slam for now. Unfortunately I haven't had as much hunting time as I used to, bills to pay and kids to raise.
For guns I've been partial lately to my Super Black hawk in .44 mag. It's a great shooting little handgun.

Yep Super black hawks are great shooters, I can make loads in nearly any configuration and it shoots well.
But compared to the Ruger .480 and the Smith & Wesson 500, the .44 does feel a bit light. Oddly enough I really have no desire to hunt with the big hand cannons, the 44 does a more then adequate job of dispatching deer.

Back when I hunted I no qualms about hunting anything up to Elk size game with my Super Blackhawk or my 45 colt Blackhawk. Either was hand loaded with 300 grain hardcast flatnose bullets. I can't see the 480 or 500 doing any better job than what those 2 guns did.

Hey archeryis life, I used to shoot some bow comp. With a "partial" sponsership from Browning. It was a good time for a few years. Like you said...I burned out on it. Love bow huntin' though, and 3D shoots around the county. And as for the .44 super blackhawk ..great deer pistol down in the southern hills of Ohio. You tryed the Raging Bull .44 ? One of the best shootin' .44's I've ever shot. With a 2x scope, Sweeeeeet.

I had a Browning, and loved going to 3D shoots, before i had rotator surgery. Never shot after that...had thoughts about picking up a mathews. BB, recurve....thats old school...and hard to use and certainly a challenge....more power to you.
