I thought it frequently ran out of breath while accelerating up to speed on the highway. And since I don't have a tach, I have no idea where I will be reving it, but it does feel a lot stronger on acceleration now. That (and the fear of cornering on the stock tires) was about the only gripe I ever had about the bike. Lots of torque, but not quite enough horsies. That seems to be fixed now.

Chip = Dyna3000 or Speedstar ignition. 6000 rpms is too high unless you had the stock valve springs replaced for Speedstar parts. 5000 would be better. Just a thought, enjoy your "new" ride. BB

Well, I guess I'll ask the guy about that. With cars, I always just shifted when it felt like I was losing power. Is that not Kosher on a bike?

Now the "chip" thing makes sense. Thanks BB. Forgot about the Dyna's.

Welcome to the clinic JHouse.

Nice ride.

The way you've got her set up really shows off the classic lines of the Road Star.

Re:Hi guys. I just got my 99 back from the recall. 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Thanks.

This is my 18 year old's Magna (with the flip side of my Road Star in back of course.

He got a magna partly because I had a black '94 (the first year) that was a long wheel base at the time, and darn cool and fast. So I put floor boards and all kinds of chrome on it until I figured out what I really wanted was a more substantial and macho bike (for the wow factor) and that is when the Road Star was just getting ready to come on the market. The Magna had a little of the mini Roadie look. So he got a Magna because it is fast and cheap and good looking.

TMI?

I can't justify a chip just for a little more horsepower... with the fact that now the bike requires premium... and regular is almost over $4... hummm... yikes! But hey, if ya got it - spend it, or should I say burn it!

Re:Hi guys. I just got my 99 back from the recall. 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Well, I filled it up with premium for the first time and it seems to run smoother now, so I'm guessing they did the work and left my 1/2 tank of regular gas in it.

I will say that there seems to be much more going on down there. The explosions literally seem substantially bigger. I feel a pounding in my crotch that was never there. So at the same time I'm thinking "Wow that's cool" and "is this thing going to last more than a week?".

But as I ride more, I'm getting used to it. I had done that stage 1 alteration on the mufflers when I first got the bike 10 years ago, so it has always sounded good. But now it seems to sound a little scarier. I'm a little self conscious about it in the old neighorhood. People walking dogs (or dags) and toddlers seem scared of little old me. So I smile a lot to make them feel better.

Raining yesterday. Going to get out now.

Oh, and I finally figured out how to load this damn picture. I got a better one, now that I'm back in the adoration stage again. Click on it to really see it.
