Oh yeah, this bar does not have end weights so unless you use grips with end weights attached (I did not) you'll feel a bit more vibration.

I just bought some stock iron bar, cut off the length I needed, inserted into the bar and tack welded.

"The starbar does take a bit getting use to as I was familiar with the stock bar, but it is more comfortable especially with my ISO Flame grips installed."

I have the Baron Big Johnson bars and love the spread of the wider bars. Once I got them adjusted to just the right height, they're comfortable and the steering is great! I'm also running pull back risers. The stock bar isn't bad at all, these are just a little better.

I have been looking at the Big Johnson bars to route wiring in the bar. I have 4" pullback risers and really wanted the wider spread for comfort. The Midnight bars are slightly wider than stock, but the Big J bar has less of a pullback and wider so it should put my hands where I want them. Can you still use the stock grips, etc.? I know I will prob have to go up at least 2" on throttle, clutch, and brake, but how much mod is required to the harness?

You can use stock or any aftermarket grips on the Big Johnson. The bar is thicker but reduces down on the ends to take standard size grips.

You're right about putting your hands where you want them and just as important, at the angle you want them. The wide bar comes close. Ideal would be with your wrists straight but that's pretty hard to do on a Road Star, unless you have long arms and can use drag bars. Mine had Baron Radius drag bars on it when I bought it and I loved the angle - only problem was, I'm 5' 10" and it was too much reach. The Big Johnson bars came with the bike and had already been on it so the cables were longer than stock, I don't know how much. All I know is, with the Radius bars on, the cables rubbed on the windshield and scratched it up.

I could run the wires inside the bars but haven't felt like messing with cutting and splicing, or whatever I'd have to do. Couple of black wire ties works for me.

Re:Please introduce yourselves!! - Again 5 Years, 8 Months ago
Greetings, all...

I've been watching the forum posts for months and already have some posts undder my belt, so my intro is long overdue.

I'm 43, live in the high desert of New Mexico and just bought my first bike in June 2006, a pearl white 2004 Roadie. I've been wanting that exact bike for a long time, but was waiting for the "perfect deal" to come along. Well, apparently a young lady had purchased this bike new for herself and rode it some, but it was too large for her. She dropped it in her driveway one day (literally) because it was just too heavy for her. Well, she got scared, took it to a Harley dealer and traded it in on a nice, light little Speedster. And since no respectable Harley dealer wants a Yamaha (shudder) on their lot, they were determined to get rid of it fast. Well, I saw it on CyCle Trader and picked it up for a song...only 4,100 miles on it, and the only thing wrong with it is a small scrape on one of the hard saddlebags and light scraping on one side of the engine guard. Hardly anything, and certainly not enough to keep me from falling in love!

Took the MSF safety course ASAP because I used to ride, just other people's loaners, and it's been about 23 years since I rode, so that course was a great refresher AND I learned some new tricks. Highly recommended!

This site has already been a tremendous resource to me in purchasing decisions and the technical expertise of the members has proved invaluable since I couldn't wait to start "tinkering" with the stock bike!

See you on the road!

PS My moniker is IN NO WAY related to riding... ...it was given to me by an old racquetball partner who used to greet me on the court that way (I referred to her as "Street Pizza&quot. Ride safe!

Welcome Roadkill

small scrape on one of the hard saddlebags and light scraping on one side of the engine guard.

That will save you the sick feeling you get when you put the first mark on your perfect new lady. I wanted to shoot myself when I dropped my bike and put a small dent in the passing lamp.

Hope you see many years of enjoyable rides.

Musky's right, everyone drops their ride. Now you don't need to worry.

Welcome RoadKill! Congratz on the bike, sounds like you got an awesome deal. So they say everyone drops their bike... I pray it never happens or I will most likely weep like a baby who's bottle just got taken away (can't tell I have a eight month old huh?).

Blessings,
BP

Well, I'm glad I'm missing out on the first weeping...but I'll get my share of the second kind soon enough...expecting our first "weeper" in December! At least she's considerate enough not to be born during riding season! I'm gettin A LOT of new things this year!

.... but all in all I have no regrets.

Congrats and I hope your wife and expectant daughter get through this stage safely.
