I'm with Helmut. Get used to the bike and get in some seat time first. Check out other folks' seats if you can, then make a selection based on what's right for you. It is an investment, after all.

I'm still on the stock seat after 2 years and 26,000 miles, but I use an Ortho-Deluxe seat pad to help me get through those 400-700-mile days. Eventually, when my wife strikes gold in the backyard, I'd like to replace the seat. Until then, I'll just gripe about the stocker.

I've read that the seats are tough on the R* but mine is very comfortable and I really like the feel of it. Maybe my rear was meant to fit in it better then most. And good choice of bikes, I made the switch and will never look back.
