Welcome Pops...What part of California are you from? I've got a 2000 R also, you're gonna love it....make sure it got the recall done, call the dealer with you vin number and they can tell you if it was done. The trans has a circlip that fails and jams 4th gear locking up the rear wheel from what I understand. When the dealer does the recall they pull the entire motor apart and you get new rings and the trans is fixed. I just got mine done.

Tom @ Seal Bch, I'm from Northern Ca. A little town called Oakley. It's about 4o miles east of Oakland. Thanks for the tip, I will give the dealer a call Monday and check into the recall.

Hi all, I am a 50 year old retired firefighter and 911 Operator. I am married and have 3 kids ages 11 (girl), 7 and 7 (boys). I bought a 2000 Road Star from a friend of mine last month. This is my 1st bike and have very little experience, therefore I have decided not to ride it to much, mainly up and down my block to get a feel for the bike, (and it feels so good). I am going to wait to get it out on the open road until after I have taken the MSF course at the end of this month. Can't wait. I been looking at this site since I decided to buy a bike and have gained a lot of knowledge from the members of this site. I'm Looking forward to being part of the Road Star clinic.
