Talk to a bunch of goldwing riders and most will flame loud pipes. Of course many of them hate chrome too . They have an acronym for their odd secret society.

I love it .... whoever made that up should be commended.

I never consider "Loud pipes save lives" in my selection of pipes. I choose my pipes for the sound I like ... not quiet but not too loud, nice tone, etc. In fact I must admit that at my age I'm somewhat embarassed driving around without my baffles.

I tend to agree with some folks who state that the way most folks drive, I doubt they would hear you when you're cruising down the road. It's best to rely on other things (a construction vest ) if you want to be seen .... and to drive defensively.

I want to do stage 1 so I can hear it, I don't care to be one the annoying ones. I have flowmasters on my pickup, sure wouldn't run straight pipes! I just like the sound of motors. never got over that "barooom" sound we made as kids
Cycle magazine had an article 20 odd years ago about loud pipes and the "blippers". They compared that wrist repetitive motion with another one... They also said to remember your engine sounds exactly like a garbage truck revving with a bad muffle to non-bikers (especially to my wife). I'm hoping stage one will let me hear it without driver her crazy (or is that crazier???)
Edit: Oh yeah, I was talking to a local cop friend about "blind" drivers on their idiot cell phones (the worst invention EVER!) He said he has them cruise past him speeding all the time and he catches up and stares until they finally get a clue and see him and hang up in a hurry. If they can't see a police cruiser what is the chances of seeing us???

Loud pipes save lives? Uhh, not in my opinion, urban myth. "Loud pipes saves lives" saying came to be to justify the loud exhaust many people run on their bikes. Just my opinion. Do I run loud pipes? Yes I do cause I like the way they sound. I am a former truck driver and a couple of times loud pipes on bikes startled me so badly that I almost veered into the other lane of traffic to avoid what I thought was going to run into me. Would not have been a good thing if another vehicle had been there.
