Loud pipes save lives? Uhh, not in my opinio... and a couple of times loud pipes on bikes startled me so badly that I almost veered into the other lane of traffic to avoid what I thought was going to run into me...
I had to laugh with this one fast Bob... loud pipes don't and then thy do....
But seriously, like onther person commented;I would not want to trust my life to a loud set of mufflers!Sure didn't mean it like they don't then they do. Damned near caused an accident so I meant it to be a "they don't" in both opinion and actual situation. If I had not had my window down it would have been a non issue. Also I am not trying to change whatever opinion you might have just posting mine.

Loud pipes HMMMM, I like them and have no problem with them, Ive had some pretty loud pipes on mine and loved them BUT they drug to much when rideing two up, and made it unsafe for me and my wife when cornering. So I decided to change over to the doolies and they are not as loud but they look better and dont drag the pavement in turns. I DID NOT rely on them, nor anything else but my awareness and my abillities while rideing to keep me safe. If a person gets behind a person that his or hers pipes are too loud then BACK OFF or GO AROUND, I HAVE AND DIDNT COMPLAIN!!! I just went on and enjoyed my day like rideing is supposed to be!!!!!!
IMHO BILL

Well My thought on loud pipes for saving lives is that it is a nice thought. but really that isn't what is going to save your life. Ride to be seen. Wether that means that you are going to wear retro reflective gear, or just strategically place your self so that you are seen. make it a point to put your headlight in the mirror of the car in front of you. I don't know about the older *'s but mine's horn sounds like a big car's horn. I don't want to make my exhaust louder for fear that the cager might not hear the horn over the exhaust. I feel like the horn will startle them into paying attention more than the sound of the exhaust will. I've thought of hooking up a very large like train style horn on the bike when I get my hard bags. That'll do the trick!!
