It's a Tricky Air system. I don't know if it's uncomfy because all air rides are, or if it's just me, or if it's because I'm pretty sure it was the 1st one for Roadies back in '03 when Spinal Tap was built and now they're better, or...? It moves the back of the bike up and down just fine, and it has a really good "Wow" factor at bike nights, but it doesn't seem to have a lot of 'spring and shock' suspension qualities.

It's a 65, 289/3-speed. My best friend had it, and sold it to me cheap. Unfortunately he stored it under a leaky tarp for a couple of years and the inside (and outside) rusted. There were mushrooms growing out of the carpet! It's a 'long long term' project.

Mine is the Midnight Special, the one with the black paint, black chrome exhaust, and gold accents. After I rebuilt it I rode it 500+ miles each way to/from Crater Lake. Couldn't hardly walk for a month! I decided that it was probably a lot more comfortable when both it and my back were 20 years younger. Went out the following spring and got the '01 Silverado.
Gave the 850 to my daughter and son-in-law for a wedding gift, and went to an AMA poker run at the local Yamaha dealer with him/it and me/my new bike shortly thereafter. Everybody gathered around him and 850, and completely ignored my brand-new Silverado! Talk about mixed emotions...

Re:My gallery of bikes... 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Thanks! I'm trying to get it a little "friendlier" to ride. I bought it from the builder (Jamie Weaver), and since getting it I've replaced the Weber 2-bbl that stuck way out the side with an S&S Super E and the air intake in the picture, and I've replaced the headlight with the chrome skull one after the original got broken in my garage, and I've added mirrors. I've also been doing work on the starting system, and there should be a new article appearing soon on using a Ford starter relay in your Roady. Next up is to replace the chain drive with a nice clean belt, and get the jetting sorted out on the carb, and some routine maintenance. Maybe take the engine out and take it to a dealer for The Recall, and if I do that I'll have 'em put regular-compression pistons back in and get rid of the HC ones. I'm hoping to be able to ride it anywhere I want next season. I may have to replace the pipes, those Mortons are unbaffled and when I start riding everywhere I'll probably attract the local gendarmes like flies to...uhh...sugar. I've seen some pipes that resemble those but with baffles, I'll see how it goes.
