That's a great looking bike you've got there! Did you buy it new? I can't imagine having something that pretty and not riding it.

Yes, bought it new that very first year. Read all the articles and got excited and found the only black one around (and at list price) about 40 miles away. Had them add whitewalls and ran away. Have taken so much crap for it from two wives it is a matter of pride now.

I think the stripes are a subtle double stripe, with one larger than the other. I'll have to look again. I wonder if there is a striping kit from Yamaha for the 99 still available?

I love the pinstripes !!! They look great with the white wall tires. I think I'll have the pinstripes hand painted on my 05 Midnight, with a brush and add the white tires the winter comming. Nice bike JHouse.

Mine started out as a pin stripe job and got a little out of hand.

OK, This is what the mechanic told me. I don't really know what it means, but this is all there is:

It is the Dyna 3000 module. He set the rev limiter at 5000 rpm (after I told them I was interested in reliability) and then 3 degrees of retard and 6 degree advance. He said the pounds per square foot of compression went from under 100 psi (stock) to 160 psi with the Yamaha high compression pistons. That's all I know. Hope it means something to you.

I have stock intake and exhaust is only the stage 1 mod.

It runs like a striped-assed ape now, and you can feel the new level of compression in your nards. It doesn't run out of breath and pulls like a tractor. Haven't hit the limiter yet (still in break in mode).

It is a lot louder, and other guys hanging around the bike shop stare.

He told me he could make it a lot stronger by revising the breathing through less restrictive intake and exhaust, which would, in turn, justify another cam. I said "no thanks" as I am currently happy just the way it is. He also said that would make at A LOT LOUDER, which I clearly don't need or want.

I guess I might have done this backasswards, as most people do the pistons at the end, after improving the breathing. But the way it is set up, it runs beautifully and sounds fantastic. I guess if I get board, the easier stuff is all that is left (except for a cam).

Hope this helps.

I also like the pinstriping on your bike. I have seen the black and white two-tone which is also very nice. BUT I believe the best paint Yamaha has put on a factory Road Star is new for 2008.... I love the blue. There's one in the dealership here that keeps calling to me...

This picture just doesn't do it justice. You have to see it in person...
