Kermit 1 Week ago
Hey all, I have a myriad of problems and I'm looking for some assistance. I recently purchased a decently tweaked 03 Silverado and I have been going through trying to figure out what has been done and what needs to be done. It sat for over a year from the time the previous owner put it on the market and I got my hands on it. The shop I purchased it through "cleaned" the carb about a month before I purchased it. So here's my questions (I did do some forum search first and hadn't found any answers that didn't leave me with more questions)

  • 1) I found both a Dynojet Rev Master and a Speedstar Competition Ignition Module setup. Is this common to run both units and if so, why?

  • 2) There is a hypercharger pro already on the bike, I purchased a new filter and maintenece kit for the butterfly assembly because I don't know how the filter was maintained, I will be pulling the carb next week. Based on that info and the pipes pictured below can anyone tell me how the carb should be setup?

  • 3) I'm running very fuel rich and getting absolutely lousy mileage. On my way back from Daytona yesterday, my brother in law said I was spitting fuel on him and getting a small flame in my top pipe. Took a look and there was moisture around the throttle set screw. Didn't see any leaking out but it's apparent it had been. Suggestions?

  • 4) Finally, I am trying to figure out the manufacturer of this fairing (picture below). I need to get a new windscreen for it. Thought it was a Memphis but those guys said it wasn't theirs. No markings on the outside and haven't pulled it apart, yet.

  • I appreciate all the help and to the mods, if I need to break this post out please just let me know,

Most of what you are looking for can be found in a search of the forum using the search options at the top right of the screen. There is a ton of info on most questions about the fuel mixture and carb issues. You should also look at the section of the tech articles section listed above. Most of what you are asking is well documented and well known for the carbed bikes and fairly easy to fix with some mechanical skills.

    And welcome to the party.

Lose the rev master and keep the speedstar module. Can't tell you anything about the carb until you pull it apart and look inside. I don't know anything about fairings

    Ditch the rev master.
If that is still the original needle and seat, replace it.
While your in the carb doing that, find out what Pilot and Main jets are in the carb.
Check the PMS screw for how many turns out from lightly seated it is(see the Tech Articles above). Shouldn't be more then about 2 1/4.
Find out what groove the clip is on, on the needle, and what is under the clip. Should be a fat plastic spacer and a silver shim(washer)

The Hyperchargers get bashed on here a lot. For whatever reason, the Hypercharger folks thought messing with the air and the fuel was needed. If who ever installed the Hypercharger followed all the directions, they probably changed out an air jet, which makes the bike run richer, as well as over jetting the carb in the Main circuit, and on the needle. Find out what those are, and let us know.

I can't help with the furniture.

If you have a flame in 1 pipe but it is spitting fuel out the exhaust you have a couple issues. The 1 cylinder that has the flame is running lean and the other is rich. To me it is an indication of and air leak on that cylinder and the dealer jetted the bike rich to compensate instead of finding the real issue. You should be able to verify this by pulling 1 spark plug from each cylinder. 1 will be white and the other black if I am correct. Also look to see if you have an exhaust leak at the connection on the pipe that has the flame.

So as many have said you will find great info on this site about the carb and jetting.

You probably should do what SKWEARpeg said to get a good base starting point on the carb. You may also need to change the accelerator pump o-ring and rubber boot. about 2 years ago I did mine....the rubber outer boot on the plunger was like hard plastic. It's worth checking.

As far as faring shields here's a link to Long Ride Shields...a lot of guys on this site have used them and they are really high quality for not very much money, plus they are on sale often. Call them they are great to work with in determining what will fit your bike. Frankly, I have no idea how they make any money selling them so cheap. My faring came with a cheapo piece of plastic in it and it broke one day, I have the Stealth Recurve and it works great and is very high quality.
