Valve noise? 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I've noticed a rattling noise when I give it the gas. I first thought it was something loose at the pipes or mufflers, but it actually sounds like it's coming from the top of the back cylinder. I'll try to post a video.

Very common with these bikes. I think they all have valve train noise and they just keep going. There isn't much you can doi about it. Many have tried and I don't think anyone has got rid of all the valve train noise.

Don't run premium fuel, just use 87 octane. 10-40 oil in cooler climates and 20-50 in hotter. Keep the RPMs up, don't lug it.

Mine does the same thing. Shores is right, don't lug it and you won't hear it very often. Mine would make noise when running around 40 in 4th. Now I stay in 3rd to around 45 and stay in 4th till around 55. The noise I do have is on the left side, sounds like the front left. Runs just fine!

Usually a valve adjustment is not necessary due to the hydraulic lifters and the rocker design. But I had a bad rattle and a year ago so I adjusted them to zero lash. Put it all back together with the same gaskets and developed a leak. So this year I opened it back up to put new gaskets in and found one of the four valve settings was to great so I readjusted it. Sounds much quieter now and doesn't leak. Still has that Roadstar upper end rattle though. Most of that is side slap of the rockers. You can move the rockers left and right and see that there is some slight movement.

I seen a write up on shimming them once. I'd be concerned somewhat about binding, aluminum expansion being what it is in that temp range and all. I'd have to do some serious egghead math before I did that. Mine is quieter since it passed 50K miles for some reason. Not complaining.

Thin nylon washers/shims would quiet it down don't you think? Not so much for filling the space but for eliminating metal to metal slap. Who wants to try this next time you are in there?
