Oil Filter 4 Months ago
In the past, I've kinda used whatever was the cheapest oil filter. At a maintenance seminar at star days; they were talking about the importance of using a good quality oil filter. They of course were pushing the yami one. I was curious if anyone has a recommendation. I was thinking of using the KN-303C (chrome K&N oil filter). Anyone have experience with this? Would appreciate any impressions.

Yamaha and Fram are rated the worst, cardboard in the filters. K&N and AC the best. I use the chrome K&N. Does the job and looks sharp.

The chrome K&N is about $1 more than the non-chrome. Wdress, why do you laugh? I can get the chrome one (kn-303c) filter for $1 more than the non-chrome (kn-303).

Where's this analysis?

Purolator Pure One PL14610 is what I use. It's usually priced right at between $4-6. Even though it's a puke mustard color it's got a textured finish on the outside making install and removal easy. I spray painted mine flat black just so it wouldn't stand out.

The review I saw of it said this: This is how an oil filter should be made. The anti-drainback valve is double the thickness of any other here, and obviously seals very well. The media is the best available, and there's a lot of it. The bypass valve is made from a laser-cut piece of stainless steel, and just can't bind or jam.

WalMart's Super Tech filter is made for them by Champion. The price just went up to $2.73, and it is a very good quality filter.

I have had auto part store clerks tell me to stay away from Fram. Years ago, Consumer reports tested filters, and the Fram was very good, at that time. The Wix had tested best, but since, Fram greatly cheapened the product, and they are now junk.

WalMart's ST-7317 is a perfectly fine filter for your Roadie. Don't let anyone tell you it isn't. It's a high quality Champion product. When you see and heft it, you can tell!
