Check your Front Pulley!!! 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
For the last week or two, I have been hearing this sound, in my belt or somewhere in the back. I thought maybe the belt just needed adjusting so I held off. Well, it started to get louder and louder so today I took my 2005 Roadie with 9300 miles to the stealer.

I told the wrench what it had been doing, so he checked it out. A few minutes later he called me back to the shop to look, the Front Pulley was about to come off!! It had done some damage to my belt, but he thought, it would be okay. THE LOCK WASHER WAS NEVER PUT ON AT THE FACTORY!! So, he fixed it up and put a lock washer and torqued the nut.

Everything now is quiet!! So Please check your front Pulley to make sure it's not loose...Wish I had, it would saved me $76.00

Ride Safe,

Frank from Bama

Funny you should mention that Frank. My bike is scattered all over my shop and that is 1 of the things I was looking at while I was adjusting my belt and checking the alignment because I started hearing a clicking sound that turns out to be the belt. After crawling around from one side to the other measuring etc....believe I may have paid someone 75 bucks to do it for me or at least have an assistant ohhhh and if you have Dooleys as I do you have to remove the left side pipe....Coug

This should be a warning to all '05 Road Star owners. You're not the first one to discover that the front pully wasn't tightened to spec from the factory. I've heard of several cases.

I found mine was only finger tight last summer when I had a tranny oil leak and had to replace the seal and o-ring. Luckily the splined washer was in place and the pully hadn't backed off, but it was definitely not as tight as it should have been.

No harder than the front pully is to access, I'd recommend everyone check their's, especially if you have an '05.

In The Wind,
Aaron

Just a thought, but it seems to me that if in fact the lock washer was not installed at the Factory that any repairs should be covered as a manufacturing defect regardless of warranty term???? This is a serious safety issue and should at least be reported by the dealer to Yamaha for review and action.

Absolutely. If they had tried to charge me for that I would have told them to get stuffed. That is for sure a factory issue

By the way guys it is only 7 bolts to remove the cover to check it, unless you are running Roadhouse Dooleys then you have to remove the left side pipes ...Coug
