Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My 06 Silverado is bone stock and I get 42 to 45 every ride so far. But I have only had it for 2 weeks.

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
After rejetting my bike I took a trip this weekend. Averaged 37 mpg. I wonder if I am losing a little mileage because of my windshiels and headlight visors. I noticed most of your signature pics are clean bikes. I looked at teh EPA mileage charts and according to that an 05 Roadstar Silverado can expect 37 mpg. I guess the new jets made the difference. Thanks for your help. I have another issue with my low fuel light bllinking I will post that question on the forum.
Thanks

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months ago
Went on another ride last week, on the way up to see my daughter I rode @ 65-70 mph in 5th gear, on hte way back I rode @ same spped only in 4th, 33mpg vs 40 in lower gear. I wonder what speed the R* runs best in 5th? My Brother has a HD with a 6 speed and they don't recommend 6th until he is above 70 mph.

Always waited to run it in 5th gear until I hit 60 or so.......that was around town. 4th gear for all my riding below that. Seemed to work good. BB

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months ago
Between town and highway I'm averaging 41-42 mpg, hitting 5th at 60 mph. My scoot seems to like it between 70-75 mph, but it's still under 2000 miles so it's still being broken in.

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months ago
I rarely get above 50 mph, and I almost never use 5th. I'm thinking of a winter project of putting a 31 tooth pulley on.

Last three tanks have been 45 and 46. I've got a K&N in a "poorman's" big air box, some low restriction pipes, and jetted as per the instructions that came with them.

It starts instantly, and can be driven away immediately. Even blips almost every time without a burp.

Must be set up just about perfect! I think I've been blessed!!!

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months ago
What octane fuel are you using? Surprisingly, I went from 35ish to just over 40 mpg when I changed from 92 to 87 octane. Just bought the bike last month and seller said to use hi octane, so I did. Fortunately, I found the clinic where I've been learning a bit. Actually, I've turned into a sponge. Thank you all. No loss of power or any indication that I've "downgraded" fuel. Best of luck with your fuel issue.

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months ago
I have been running 92 octane, I tried a tank of 10% ethanol blend, very common here in Minnesota and noticed a slight decrease in mileage, maybe I will run a few tanks of regular lower octane fuel. I am happeir with the improved fuel economy but am a bit jealous of the guys running in the mid 40's. Maybe upper 30's is what I can expect at highway speeds.
It is amazing how willing everyone on this forum is to help and give suggestions.
Thanks!!!

Ethanol blends result in poor mileage.

Running higher than 87 does not result in any benefit to you or your bike.

Re:Poor Mileage 3 Months ago
Doc's correct.

Ethanol blends contain less energy, and always result in lower mileage, never better.

And, if an engine runs just fine on 87 octane gas, it will not be benefited by running on anything higher, as the octane rating is an anti-knock, or pre-ignition rating. If your engine doesn't knock, ping or pre-ignite on 87... it certainly won't on the higher stuff, but you're just wasting your money, as there is no other benefit to be gained by running the higher octane fuel.

Run 87 octane, and with as little ethanol as you can find anywhere, (or better yet, with none at all), and as long as you're not pinging, that's the best performance and mileage you're going to see.
