Drive pulley lock washer 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I was looking at the service manual for the 1600 and the supplemental manual for the 1700 and the 1700 lists the lock washer as new part so out of curiosity I looked at the 1600 manual and it lists it as a new part as well.Thinking it would be insane not to have a lockwasher originally my question is do you guys riding the 1600s have the lock washer or not.How many tangs are bent up if you have them as I have also seen complaints as there was only 1 tang bent when they opened their pulley housing.I had only 1 bent on my 1700 which seemed suffficient to me....Coug

I have a 1700 and it has a lock washer. Due to the construction of the lock washer (at least mine) you can only bend one of the tangs. If you add a lock washer you should also use some blue lock-tite on the pulley nut as well. My original lockwasher broke (even with the tang bent) which caused the pulley nut to come loose.

The lock washer is of the bent tang type, and only one tang should be used, and should be sufficient.

If the tang broke, it is highly likely it had been straightened at least once and reused, which is not a recommended practice.

If you change or remove your pulley... do not reuse the factory lock washer. Replace it with a new one, and bend that tang only once.

This is now my 100th post... where's that reefer rig loaded with Rocky Mountain Kool-Aid?
